What to know - January 6 Council Cycle

January 5, 2021 – As the new year kicks off, the Davenport City Council will be getting right down to business. Council will consider a moratorium on the issuance of special use permits for bars and minor vehicle repair/service in C-1 Neighborhood Commercial Zoning District and two-family conversions in R-3, R-3C, R-4, and R-4C Single- and Two-Family Residential Zoning Districts until July 13, 2021. The City continues to experience nuisances related to bars and vehicle repairs in commercial districts that are in close proximity to residential neighborhoods. This moratorium will allow staff to evaluate and develop regulations that will fulfill the purpose of the City’s Zoning Code.

With the sale of the former Wacky Waters property, the City was in need of a new Fire training site within City limits. After extensive site research, utilizing existing property at Davenport Public Works was determined to be the best choice. City Council has previously approved contracts related to site preparation, and this cycle will consider the plans, specs, and estimate of cost for the construction of a new building that will house classroom training by the Davenport Fire Department.

Two AFSCME collective bargaining agreements are on the agenda for approval this Cycle. Council will consider agreements between the City of Davenport and Davenport Public Library with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local union No. 887.

Pursuant to Executive Order 2020-22 issued by Mayor Matson on December 30, 2020, attendance by the general public at any City of Davenport public meeting within its facilities shall be limited to 10 persons, and masks are required to be worn in all City facilities.

Mayor Matson and the Council still want to hear from you! Citizens can submit comments regarding items on the agenda to [email protected] by 2:30 p.m. the day of the meeting. Meetings can be viewed live at www.davenportiowa.com/watchlive.
