Pine Knoll will be repurposed as apartments for senior citizens

The Iowa Finance Authority awarded Federal housing tax credits to Ales Development to redevelop the former Pine Knoll facility at 2504 Telegraph Road. The former Vera French facility that closed a few years ago will be converted into apartments for seniors. The $6 million project will provide 25 units of affordable and market-rate units for seniors (ages 55 and up).

The developer for the project, Chris Ales, said it continues the type of redevelopment in the recently completed Naval Reserve and Gold Coast Apartments projects and adds the amenities of great views and garages that are in high demand with Iowa winters. Alderman Rick Dunn also commented that it will help breathe new life into both the great neighborhood and this building that has sat vacant for a few years.

Work is anticipated to start as soon as later this fall with completion by the end of 2021.
