Median Removal on River Dr Between Perry and Iowa

The medians on River DR between Perry and Iowa have been removed and the road re-opened.  Periodic lane closures are possible as the contractor returns for finish work.

River Dr will be closed to westbound traffic at 4th St for removal of the medians between Perry and Iowa Streets beginning Tue Nov 12th.

The medians, never intended to function as flood control, were installed in 2010 with city and IDOT grant funds. The purpose of the medians was to reduce speeds/calm traffic on River Dr. Plants were added to the design to complement and enhance the aesthetic along the riverfront.

Since installation, the medians have achieved their purpose; however, they have made installation of the temporary flood wall in that area less efficient. Removal will provide more working space for the installation of the temporary flood wall in that area when river levels require installation.

Removal is estimated to be complete by mid-December, pending weather and subsurface conditions.
