E 39th St Resurfacing Project to Begin

05/30/19
This work has been rescheduled to occur on Friday, May 31st.

05/29/19

Resurfacing work on E 39th St between Bridge Ave and Kimberly Rd is nearing completion.

A rolling closure of E 39th St along the project extents is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 30th, pending weather.  The traveling public should avoid the project area.  Affected residents and businesses have been advised of possible delays entering into and exiting out of adjacent driveways, and of alternate parking arrangements to avoid delays.

Asphalt will be applied using a rolling closure for the following reasons:

  • Closing the road allows for full width resurfacing provides the best quality pavement because the center joint is eliminated.
  • The closure is a rolling closure because freshly applied asphalt is about 300 F and cannot be walked or driven until the asphalt is rolled and cooled to below 140 F.

Beginning Monday, April 22nd, E 39th St between Bridge Ave and Kimberly Rd will be reduced to one westbound lane of traffic for resurfacing work.  The work is estimated to be complete by the end of May, pending weather and subsurface conditions.

Access to all properties along the stretch will be maintained; all traffic will enter E 39th from the east, travel and exit to the west.

Westbound CitiBus Route 10, Magenta Line, will be detoured as follows:  Kimberly Rd to Mississippi Ave, left on 37th St, left on Bridge Ave, right onto Kimberly Rd.

Resurfacing work includes milling the upper surface of the asphalt, repairing underlying pavement and adjacent curbs as necessary, and applying new asphalt.  Sidewalks and curb ramps will be updated, as needed, to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
