Three things to know about the first July City Council cycle: The Davenport Fire Department’s training center is moving, a section of the Duck Creek bike path will be resurfaced and Davenport Public Schools will hold graduation ceremonies on July 19.

Aldermen will have two public hearings at Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the first on moving the training center to the Public Works facility on East 46th Street and the second hearing is for resurfacing the bike path from Division Street to Marquette Street.

No cost has been attached to the training center move, but the cost of resurfacing, including patching, joint repair, sidewalk/ADA improvements, grading and seeding is estimated at $190,000.
The training center will move because of the sale of the former Wacky Waters property from Eastern Iowa Community College to Hawkeye Paving in 2018. Construction of the training center will begin this summer and be ready for use by firefighters this fall.

Davenport Community Schools submitted a street closure request for 36th Street between Brady Street and the baseball complex with ceremonies from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., estimating 6,000 people attending, according to the application.

These items and the rest of the agenda will be voted on at the July 8 City Council meeting. The Committee of the Whole meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. The City Council meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are in council chambers of City Hall, 226 W. 4th St.
