Public Safety Radio System

Description/Goal

Participate in a bi-state consortium currently working through the contract negotiations with vendor on the next-generation radio system build-out project. Maintain partnership with SECC and Iowa stakeholder communities on implementation.

Current Update

The intergovernmental agreement has been signed by Rock Island and Scott counties. Scott County has outlined the funding process for this project. Sites are being identified for proposed locations of new radio towers and final details for the system's design are being negotiated. The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has offered suggestions for representatives to sit on the intergovernmental advisory group. This group will be discussing policies for the common good of Rock Island and Scott counties. These members have been approved by the SECC board. The current radios are at the end of their current life cycle, if radios are needed prior to the purchase by the County, the City is currently working on a plan to do so.

Previous Status

RACOM has been selected as the vendor for the new radio system. The City is currently working with Scott County on the financing mechanism for implementation. There will be a three year build out that is estimated to begin in Fall 2019.
