Mayor Signs Executive Order Issuing Curfew for Downtown Davenport and Village of East Davenport

In the interest of public safety, curfew was coordinated with Rock Island.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (August 29, 2020) – On Saturday, Mayor Matson joined Rock Island’s Mayor Thoms and Rock Island Police Chief VenHuizen at a press conference to discuss the violence and associated shootings that occurred overnight in the District of Rock Island on Saturday, August 29th. At the press conference, Mayor Thoms issued an executive order that included a curfew and business closures in the District beginning at 12:00am midnight on August, 30, 2020.

In the interest of public safety, and in support of and coordination with Rock Island, Mayor Matson has issued an executive order implementing a curfew effective 12:00am midnight August 30, 2020, for the Downtown Davenport and the Village of East Davenport areas. In addition, all businesses in Downtown Davenport and the Village of East Davenport must close at 12:00am midnight on August 30, 2020. The curfew expires at 5am on Sunday, August 30th.

The boundaries of curfew area are:

Downtown Area
The area bounded by and including 15th Street on the North, Marquette Street on the West, the Mississippi River on the South and Arlington Street ( from 13th ST North) and Tremont Avenue (from 13th Street South to the river) on the East.

East Village Area
The area bounded by and including McCellan Blvd on the East from the Mississippi River to Middle Road, thence west along Middle Road to Jersey Ridge Road, thence south on Jersey Ridge Road to Kirkwood Blvd, thence west along Kirkwood to Eastern Avenue, thence south on Eastern Avenue to 12th Street, thence west along 12th Street to Mississippi Avenue, thence south along Mississippi Avenue to the Mississippi River.

Exemptions to the curfew apply only to those travelling to or from their place of employment, government employees and credentialed press.
