The City Council will vote next week on an $118,553 demolition bid for the Main Street Landing site.
The council heard about the project as well as a $5.6 million budget amendment that includes funding for police and fire initiatives at its Committee of the Whole meeting Wednesday.
The bid to Hawkeye Paving is to remove remaining concrete and other on-site utilities remaining after the removal of the Rhythm City Casino’s porte cochere to prepare for future improvements at the site.
Aldermen will also vote on a budget amendment of $5.6 million for the purposes of establishing the Special Public Safety Fund to fund four additional sworn police officers, replace a fire truck for the Davenport Fire Department and constructing interchange tracks and a line exchange at the City’s transload facility.
The Special Public Safety Fund is part of a 28E intergovernmental agreement with the Davenport Community School District that will fund two school resource officers as well as two other police officers.
The new fire truck is expected to cost $508,000.
The City needs to make modifications to the transload facility and short-line rail in order to accommodate increased traffic to appropriately serve Sterilite and future rail users in the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center. The FY 2018 budget needs to be amended $4.5 million for the project. The City has a $2.2 million Economic Development Authority grant, $300,000 in funding from the original transload facility project and $2 million from unspent fund balance in fiscal year 2017.
