Important update.  While the project is trucking right along, the schedule of work has been revised to better align activities along the entire 5-mile route where work will occur. Tree clearing along the path between Pine and Hickory Grove Rd is nearly complete. All trees identified for removal have been cut down. The contractor is currently working on finish landscape activities such as recycling woody material on-site and spreading the mulch, removing other debris and hauling, and general landscape cleanup. With the schedule change, the area will roll into construction over the next few weeks, beginning with trenching for the new sewer line and pipe installation. Due to the move right to heavy construction, the bike path between Hickory Grove Rd and Pine is expected to remain detoured through most of the summer for the trench and pipe installation work.

Work on a significant sewer extension will begin next week. The $16.25 M, ARPA-funded project will connect the western boundaries of Davenport with the current collection system in compliance with the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Known as the Duck Creek Sewer Interceptor project, the project will install new sanitary sewer pipes from Hickory Grove Rd to I-280 and abandon the current wastewater treatment lagoon just off of I-280 near West Lake Park.

Beginning the first week in March, initial phases will start with the closure of the Duck Creek Recreational Trail at Pine St to Hickory Grove Rd for public safety as tree clearing and preparatory construction work begins. Watch for updates as work progresses and changes in access to trails and/or roadways happen.

The entire project to abandon the wastewater lagoon and expand sewer connectivity will have multiple phases, with some stretches of pipe being installed trenchlessly and using a trench. The estimated completion date for the mammoth project is late 2025/early 2026.
