W Locust Sewer and Resurfacing Project

11/28/18

The contractor will return to finish work on the W Locust sewer and resurfacing project tomorrow, Thursday, November 29th.  Work will require closure of the center lanes between Division and Lincoln on Thursday and Friday.

Additional finish work such as ADA curb ramps will continue into December.  This work may close side streets but should not require lane reductions on W Locust.

11/16/18

Beginning Saturday, November 17th or Monday, November 18th, traffic control on W Locust between Division and Lincoln Rd will change as work transitions.  Initially traffic will be routed in each direction in the inside lanes.  Around November 25th, traffic control will change again routing traffic head-to-head in the two north lanes.

Watch for changing traffic control while finish work is completed.

All sewer and resurfacing work along this stretch is estimated to be complete by the end of November.

10/23/18

Beginning Friday, October 26th, traffic control will change on W Locust for the application of asphalt in the south lanes.  The application is expected to be complete sometime Saturday, October 27th, weather dependent.

While the asphalt is applied there will be rolling daytime closures of all streets and driveways as they intersect with Locust on the south side.  It is important for the public to know the closures are necessary for hot asphalt and fresh tack to cool, cure, and become a quality drivable surface.  Bikes and vehicles that drive over these surfaces before they are ready can be damaged.  Pedestrians should also not walk on hot asphalt or fresh oil.

Work will flip to the north lanes sometime Sunday, October 28th. With the flip, traffic will be routed on the new asphalt, and the north lanes of Locust will be closed as well as associated side streets.

All sewer and resurfacing work on Locust between Lincoln Rd and Division St is estimated to be complete in late November.

10/12/18

W Locust was re-opened late Thursday following a temporary closure for an emergency sewer repair.

Resurfacing work has been slowed by recent rains. The contractor’s revised schedule is to finish work on the work on the south side of Locust St in approximately three weeks.  Once work on the south side is complete, work will flip to the north side of the street.

All sewer and resurfacing work on Locust between Lincoln Rd and Division St is estimated to be complete early to mid-November.

10/10/18

W Locust St, between Cedar and Lincoln, will be closed on Thursday, October 11th beginning at approximately 8:30am for an emergency sewer lateral repair. The repairs are expected to be complete the same day, pending weather and discovery of other issues. Once complete, traffic will return to head-to-head in each direction for on-going sewer and resurfacing work.

During the closure, residents to the south of Locust will be able to exit onto eastbound Locust from Cedar and Howell Streets.  Residents south of Locust should enter their neighborhoods from the south, instead of Locust; those located west of the railroad bridge should use Telegraph to Cedar Street, and those located east of the railroad bridge should use Division to 17th St.

09/27/18

Changes to traffic control on W Locust St between Division and Lincoln changed earlier today.  Head-to-head travel in each direction remains, however access to/from nearly all side streets to the south along this stretch have been closed.  Howell and Cedar Streets remain open at W Locust as alternative routes to access streets to the south of Locust.  The closure of these side streets was necessary for pavement improvements on Locust.  The streets will be re-opened when the current phase of patching and asphalt is complete, in approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

09/17/18

Beginning on Thursday, September 20th, traffic control on the W Locust sewer and pavement improvement project will change to head-to-head traffic in each direction in the two north lanes.  Work in the south lanes will include pavement removal, milling, sewer repairs and full-depth patching.  Once work in the south lanes is complete, work will flip to the north.

All work is estimated to be complete by mid-to-late October, depending on weather and subsurface conditions.

08/16/18

Beginning Monday, August 20th westbound W Locust will be closed between Crescent and Cedar for a sewer lateral repair.  Traffic will be head-to-head in the eastbound lanes while work is performed.   The repair is estimated to be complete sometime Wednesday, August 22nd.

Once the lateral repair is complete, work will begin on the sewer and resurfacing project between Division and Lincoln Streets. Sewer work will occur in approximately 3 block sections at a time as the project moves between Division and Lincoln.  When work transitions to resurfacing, work will be completed in two sections.

Lane reductions and transitioning traffic control will be necessary; however, one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained for the duration of the project.

All work is estimated to be complete by Friday, October 26th, pending weather and subsurface conditions.
