River Heritage Park Phase III Substantially Complete Fall 2021

The plans for River Heritage Park are becoming more, and more of a reality as Phase III work continues along East River Drive between the Arsenal Bridge and 4th Street.

Once complete, the 7.5-acre park will feature breathtaking views for visitors arriving by foot, bike, car, or river cruise line, including decorative walking paths, a gazebo, great lawn, interpretative play, and prairie areas.

Earlier this spring and summer, structural repairs were made to the seawall, including safety railing refinishing, which set the stage for current construction activities. The current phase includes a 525-foot riverwalk extension complete with lighting, which will include a new docking home for arriving river cruise lines. The centerpiece of Phase III will be the completion of the 1.5-acre Great Lawn feature that can host anything from passive and informal recreation opportunities to large-scale organized events courtesy of electrical system upgrades in the area. Unique land forming along the upstream end of the park will complete the project scope containing a scenic overlook of the park and a unique vantage point of the Mississippi River and adjacent landmarks.

The project is expected to be substantially complete yet this fall.
