With pride, the City of Davenport is announcing a recent FEMA determination to increase Davenport from a Class 8 to a Class 7 community for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS). What that means for property owners is lower flood insurance costs and assurance that Davenport is a progressive community working to reduce flood risk and protect our natural resources.
William H. Lesser of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration said this of Davenport in the Class 7 notification, "I commend you on your community actions and your determination to lead your community to be more disaster-resistant. This commitment enhances public safety, property protection, and protects the natural functions of floodplains, and reduces flood insurance premiums."
Disaster preparedness is vital to our water-rich community's resilience, including 9 miles of riverfront property and nearly 150 miles of creeks and streams. Participation in the NFIP CRS program ensures the City applies environmentally sound practices that enrich our community and natural resources.
The increase in CRS rating, resulting in lower flood insurance rates, included verification of enhanced programs and resources, including mapping, community outreach, open space preservation, higher floodplain development regulatory standards, and floodplain management.
