Davenport Fire Department is proud of the community members and several members of the Davenport Police Department who stepped up to provide life-saving aid during a July 3 house fire.
Fire Chief Mike Carlsten honored the two private citizens and 10 Davenport Police officers at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.
Carlsten recognized Anthony Buckley and Anthony English who were working nearby when the fire broke out. They helped set ladders that allowed three girls, a boy and the family dog to escape their smoke-filled house on East Locust Street.
The Police officers recognized were Sgt. Jason Willey, Sgt. Chris Mahieu, Officer Jennifer Brewer, Officer Curtiss Carter, Officer Mark Dinneweth, Officer Vince Jacobsen, Officer Roberto Luna, Officer James Meier and Officer Dwight Swartz.
Officer Jarrad Cockshoot received a special commendation for performing duties above, and beyond, the expectations of his position – and placing himself in harm’s way to serve the community – and rescue people from a dangerous situation. He assisted with getting some of the family out of the house and onto the ladder.
“We would like to acknowledge Officer Jarrad Cockshoot for his heroic actions,” Carlsten said.
