Records Bureau

The Davenport Police Department Front Desk & Records Bureau provide public service, police reports, background information, and crime statistics to the general public, media, and police personnel, internally and nationwide.  Staffed by nine full-time civilian Police Services Generalists, one full-time Lead Police Services Generalist and a Records Supervisor, the Bureau maintains all records generated by the Department.  The Bureau processes and stores over 21,000 reports per year.

The Front Desk/Lobby is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday - Friday, closed weekends and holidays.

The Records Bureau is open to the public 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday, closed weekends and holidays.

Public Information Requests

Citizens may request and obtain public information including accident reports, police reports,  background checks, and crime statistics.   

The Davenport Police Department follows the guidelines set forth in Chapters 22 and 692 of the Iowa State code, more commonly known as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).  Copies of public information will be provided as allowed by state law.

The fees for obtaining public information are as follows:

Viewing a police report is FREE - face sheet only
 Police Reports:                              $5.00 (up to 10 pages)
                                                              $5.00 + $0.25 per page (11+ pages)
 No Record Found:                        $8.00 if documentation is required
 Faxed or Mailed Requests:       $10.00 when documents are faxed or mailed to requestor
 On-Line Crash Reports:             $15.00 per crash (when) available from Lexis Nexis
 Address Check:                             $8.00 per address (up to 10 pages)
                                                              $8.00 per address + $0.25 per page (11+ pages)
 Statistics/Calls for Service:      $32.00  per hour (hours rounded to the nearest 1/4 hour)
 Local Background Check:          $8.00 per person (Davenport Only) - must provide full name/any former names/full DOB/full SSN for all requested.
 Photographs:                                  $5.00 per CD
 Audio/Video CD/DVD:               $25.00 per CD/DVD

Acceptable forms of payment are:

Fingerprinting Information

For information about getting fingerprinted, click here or contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office Jail Facility at 563-326-8625. An appointment is required.

Accident Report & Police Report Requests

Citizens may request and obtain an accident or police report during Records Bureau business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday.  The Records Bureau is closed on weekends and holidays.  A Public Information Request form will be required to obtain the information that is available.  This form can be filled out in person at the Records Bureau or by downloading a copy and printing form.  

Additionally, a driver or insurance company may obtain an accident report 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by clicking here.

Background Check Requests

Citizens may request and obtain a local background check which contains only Davenport charges and arrests during Records Bureau business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday.  The Records Bureau is closed on weekends and holidays.  A Public Information Request form will be required to obtain the information that is available.  Individuals requesting a background check on themselves must present a government-issued photo identification.

If a background check is needed from outside of Davenport that agency will need to be contacted.  Information on obtaining a state background check or a national background check can be obtained at the Records Bureau window.

Vehicle/Property Release Requests

 To request a vehicle/property release AFTER business hours please call 563-326-6125.  Requirements for obtaining a vehicle release include:

 1.    Person requesting the release must be the registered owner.
 2.    Must have a valid drivers license.
 3.    Must have current proof of insurance.
4.    Must have valid/current registration.
